The CRIC

The CRIC

The Children’s Research and Innovation Centre (CRIC) is a purpose-built research and innovation facility designed to support advances in children’s healthcare through research, collaboration and education.

The facility will support a wide range of paediatric research activity, helping clinicians and researchers develop new approaches to diagnosis, treatment and patient care. Research undertaken at the CRIC will focus on improving healthcare outcomes for children and young people both in Ireland and internationally.

The CRIC has a distinct but complementary role to the National Children’s Hospital itself. While the hospital focuses on the delivery of clinical care, the CRIC is focused on research and innovation that will help shape the future of healthcare for children and young people.

By bringing together clinicians, researchers, universities and innovation partners in one location, the CRIC will help strengthen Ireland’s wider healthcare and research ecosystem.

Benefits

The CRIC will:

Support earlier diagnosis and improved treatments for children and young people

Help accelerate research into areas including cancer, mental health, disability and genetic conditions

Strengthen collaboration between clinicians, researchers and academic institutions

Support Ireland’s position as a leading centre for paediatric research and innovation

Help attract and retain world-class research and clinical talent

Create a long-term legacy for children, families and healthcare innovation

Why Research Matters

Research plays a critical role in improving healthcare outcomes for children and young people. International evidence shows that research-active healthcare environments support better patient outcomes, faster access to innovation and stronger long-term healthcare improvement.

By locating research activity alongside clinical care, the CRIC will help ensure that new discoveries and innovations can be translated more quickly into practical benefits for children and families.

The CRIC will also strengthen collaboration between healthcare providers, universities and researchers, helping position Ireland as a leading centre for paediatric research and innovation.

Research carried out alongside clinical care can help improve survival rates, reduce diagnostic delays and accelerate access to innovative treatments.
